Far From The Madding Crowd, Friar’s Entry
The FFTMC sadly shut in January 2015 after the landlord was unable to reach agreement with the building owner over rent. It remains shut at time of writing.
Named after the Thomas Hardy book of the same name, this has been named CAMRA Oxford pub of the year on more than one occasion.
The pub is tucked down Friar’s Entry next to the old Borders store (now Tesco), and is somewhat more lacking in character than many other central pubs. However, there is an ever changing beer selection as evidenced by the vast array of old pumpclips that decorate the bar walls, with Brakspear as the regular on handpump alongside 5 others.
There is also a quarterly beer festival, and for the cider drinker, a range of bottled ciders in addition to ciders in barrel at times.
